Chapter Five

Muted music sounded through the insulated walls as Beau stood in the center of Mondo’s well-outfitted playroom at La Forge.

Mondo patted his shoulder. “Do you have everything you need?”

Beau pursed his lips. “Only thing I need is her. She’s late.”

“Pansy’s not the most punctual person. She might have gotten distracted on her way here.”

He left unsaid the fact Beau’s competition might have been the one to distract her. Something Beau didn’t want to worry about. After this morning, he thought he and Pansy had a connection, one they hadn’t acted on for months, but that had always been there as they circled each other inside the club. Why had he waited so long to act? Had he lost his opportunity to convince her she needed him in her life? He hoped her gift was something she liked, that he hadn’t misjudged her sense of adventure.

Mondo gave him another pat. “I’ll watch the door.”

Beau didn’t move. He didn’t want to want to admit it, even to himself, but he’d be disappointed if she ditched their date. He’d savored this long chase. Enjoyed figuring out ways to get her to watch him. Favoring easy, flamboyant subs for play just to see the wry curl of Pansy’s mouth as she shook her head when she passed him.

Maybe he’d misread everything. Maybe she’d been disgusted with his flirting—not amused or intrigued.

And he’d been so careful to surprise her. Letting her see him use techniques that relied on denial rather than physical punishments to ratchet up his partner’s arousal. Things he knew Pansy was into.

She liked to play, to be enticed. Liked a blindfold and restraints while being teased with feather until she begged for release. He knew, because he’d watched her when she’d accepted invitations to play with some of the Doms in the club, including Mondo, who had stood her in chains while using a vibrator to arouse her but wouldn’t give her permission to come.

Her knees had turned inward and her hips had pulsed forward and back. When her expression contorted as she rode the edge of ecstasy, he’d been drawn to the side of the raised dais. There, he’d watched the fine quivers shaking her belly and the rivulet of whitish fluid trickling down one thigh, and he’d been enthralled.

He’d had no forewarning she’d be at Aiden’s, but when she’d strolled inside the playroom, her gaze scanning the small crowd until it locked on him, he’d known the time had finally come to make his move.

Too bad there’d been someone else ready to step between them.

He heard the snick of the door behind him.

“Sure you don’t want to keep this private between the two of you?” Mondo asked.

Without looking back, Beau shook his head. “I know I haven’t said much. But watching Jackson, Gus and now Craig so happy with their lives, I guess I’m finally ready to experience some of that for myself.” He turned his head to meet Mondo’s dark gaze. “Aren’t you?”

He knew Mondo’s pain. He’d been Ash’s mentor and had fallen in love with her.
